Royal Composition Number 1

Saeng Thian (Candlelight Blues) is the first musical composition written in April of 1946 while His Majesty was entitled His Royal Highness the Royal Younger Brother. He assigned His Royal Highness Prince Chakrabhand Pensiri to write lyries in Thai, But since His Majesty felt that he needed to adjust certain parts of the tune and chords, it was not released for public performance then. Professor Prasert Na Nagara related that "...His Royal Highness the Royal Younger Brother (His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej) said that this song was too melancholic in the ending part which ran as Having suffered so long, I would now take leave..." Prince Chakrabhand then told him that "...Since it was a blues tune. The Afro-American blues are melancholic..." To this His Majesty responded that "...Sad as it may sound, the song always end with a philosophic message, to fight on, and that there is hope still..."

His Majesty later gave the composition to be performed for the first time in 1947, and in 1953, Miss Sodsai Vanijvadhana (Associate Professor Sodsai Pantoomkomol) penned the lyrics in English for His Majesty as Candlelight Blues.
